New York’s engineering scene has changed dramatically since 2020, so having DeveloperWeek (June 9-10, 2026) back in town feels like a useful checkpoint. After a six-year hiatus, the event returns at the TWA Hotel at JFK - a fitting location for a city that has spent the past few years becoming a serious hub for infrastructure and AI development.

The program skips high-level theory and focuses on the problems engineers actually deal with: cloud-native architecture, integrating AI into development workflows, and maintaining security without slowing deployment.

In New York, time is the most valuable currency, and generic talks don’t last long. The tech ecosystem here operates under constant pressure, building systems that simply cannot fail. Whether it’s a startup or a financial institution, teams are trying to solve the same challenge: ship faster without breaking critical infrastructure.

There’s growing local interest in the "New Stack" - particularly how teams move past the AI hype cycle and integrate new tools into real workflows without creating long-term maintenance problems. The conversations tend to focus on the messy realities of running systems at scale, where millions of users or sensitive data leave little room for mistakes.

For years, "New York tech" was largely synonymous with fintech. DeveloperWeek’s audience now reflects a broader ecosystem, drawing participants from more than 70 countries. Engineers from media, healthcare, and startups are facing similar challenges: scaling systems while keeping the underlying architecture stable.

Speakers from organizations like The New York Times and NBC are part of the draw, but the real value often comes from the hallway conversations - 1,500 engineers comparing how their teams are navigating the same technical trade-offs.

New York’s tech scene isn’t what it was six years ago, and neither is the way we build software. With the city now home to some of the world’s most serious engineering teams, DeveloperWeek’s return feels timely.

Some of the most interesting conversations at the TWA Hotel this June will probably begin with a simple question:

"What are you building?"
